SUMMARY:The Sea Within (Art)
DESCRIPTION:The Municipality of Limassol in collaboration with BPRarts Cultural Management and the support of the Ministry of Education and Culture is presenting the exhibition The Sea Within at the Limassol Municipal Arts Centre Apothikes Papadaki. The exhibition will be co-curated by Catherine Louis Nikita and Sylia Panayiotidou and is organised with the support of the French Embassy and the French Institute of Cyprus. \nThe core theme of the exhibition is the Sea\, partly focusing on the idea of the Pier\, both acting as symbols beyond their physical substance. In visual arts\, literature and poetry\, Nature often represents human emotions\, heroes’ characters\, esoteric philosophical debates. Nature is not only around us\, but also deep within us\, directly connecting the physical world with abstract and intangible concepts\, such as our human consciousness. \nThe sea is paralleled with life\, the innermost depth of the unconscious\, the mind\, the beginning\, the end\, the unknown; the pier acting as a manmade (un)breakable bond with the land\, with security. A transitional point\, a place outside our spacetime. This exhibition suggests that we meet in this other place. During transit\, as in a pier\, the visitor is invited to navigate in potential spaces between poetry\, dream and illusion. Between earth\, sky and sea. It is also called upon to question the permanence and sensitivity of the world and the status of the passage of our own existence. \nThe artworks presented aim at creating a visual map of experiences\, views and feelings on this discussion. The exhibition aspires to act as a connecting cell between various artistic expressions (installation\, painting\, mixed media\, photography)\, as well as between local and foreign artists\, especially with the addition of artists from Marseilles\, in the context of an artistic exchange between the Municipalities of Limassol and Marseilles. \nParallel to the exhibition at the Limassol Municipal Arts Centre Apothikes Papadaki\, a photographic exhibition with the same theme will be presented at the seaside park of Molos by Angelina Demosthenous\, George Pantazis and Alexandros Voskarides. \nThe exhibition will be inaugurated on the 19th of October 2018 at 8 o’clock in the evening by the Mayor of Limassol\, Mr Nicos Nicolaides. \nParticipating artists: Spyros Agathou\, Othonas Charalambous\, Emin Çizenel\, Claire Dantzer\, Andros Efstathiou\, Theodoulos Gregoriou\, George Heracleous\, Lina Jabbour\, Lia Lapithi\, Maria Lianou\, Julien Lombardi\, Thekla Georgiou Papadopoulou\, Lefteris Eleftheriou Tapas\, Maria Trillidou. \nPromotional material design: Despina Kannaourou \nOpening Hours:\nTuesday – Friday 10:00 -18:00 | Saturday 10:00-13:00 | Monday and Sunday closed \nContact Number:\n25 367700

SUMMARY:My Zinc Bed (Theater)
DESCRIPTION:ETHAL presents the play “My Zinc Bed” of the award winning English playwright David Hare. \nWhen struggling poet\, reformed alcoholic\, and devout Alcoholics Anonymous adherent Paul Peplow interviews the wildly successful\, reclusive\, and notoriously prickly entrepreneur Victor Quinn\, he is in no way prepared for what is to follow. Victor is not only familiar with Paul’s obscurely published work but can quote from it liberally; he is also somehow aware of Paul’s battle with alcoholism and\, without solicitation\, Victor challenges Paul with his own confrontational thoughts on addiction\, the true meaning of recovery\, and what he sees as AA’s hidden aga. Victor then concludes their bizarre encounter by offering Paul a job decorating the legend of his fast-growing Internet business. Yet as surreal as all this is\, Paul is even less prepared to deal with Victor’s seductive wife\, Elsa\, also a former alcoholic\, but one who continues to drink and tempts Paul in ways that rattle him to his very core. \nAdapted and directed by Andreas Araouzos \n(in Greek)

SUMMARY:The Notebooks of Anzel Kourtian (Theater)
DESCRIPTION:A troublesome and requesting solo performance to portrary Anzel Kourtian in a theatrical adaption of the book entitled “The Notebooks of Anzel Kourtian” written by Anzel Kourtian herself\, a survivor of the Armenian Genocide (1915) and the Destruction of Smyrna (1922). \nIt is basically the story of war seen through the eyes of a young child. Bursa\, Afyonkarahisar\, Smyrna and Mytilene are the stops of Kurtian’s wandering. \nBefore\, she settled on the Greek island of Crete and moved later to Kokkinia in Piraeus\, where she started her own family and satisfied her existence with her children and grandchildren. \nThe serious atmosphere of the Armenian Genocide and the Destruction of Smyrna\, the immigration and the survival\, the loss of relatives\, the pain and the disaster\, arouse deep emotions and chills in the hearts and souls of the spectators that moved toward becoming piece of the occasions described in front of an audience.
