SUMMARY:1940 | People and Images. Cyprus - Greece
DESCRIPTION:World War II has been the deadliest conflict in human history\, the “point zero” of European and global civilization. Dozens of nations engaged in combat\, millions of people were killed\, civilians as well as soldiers\, and the largest part of Europe suffered incalculable damage. The map of the Old Continent was redrawn. \nThe Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation and the Embassy of Greece organize for the first time in Cyprus the exhibition “1940 | People and Images. Cyprus – Greece”. The exhibition presents primary evidence drawn from historical research into the World War II period\, including the participation of Cyprus and Cypriot volunteers in the fight against the Axis powers as well as significant aspects of the Greek people’s resistance. \nIt collects\, traces and displays people and images as it tells the story of the humble heroes of the war. It is a tribute to the participation of Cyprus and Greece in the 1940 campaign. Featured in the context of the exhibition is Dimitris Vattis’ photography project “The War’s Forgotten”. \nThe exhibition is curated by Catherine Loui Nikita\, Director of BPR Cultural Management. \nThe President of the Republic of Cyprus will inaugurate the exhibition on Tuesday\, 9 April 2019\, at 19:00 \nDuration: 10.04.19 – 31.12.19\nVisiting hours: Mon – Sun 10:00-19:00 \n86-90 Faneromenis Str.\, Old Nicosia \nT: 22128157

SUMMARY:InterSpace - Uranus's second castration
DESCRIPTION:“Uranus’s second castration: piece for a dancing flutist”\, by Brice Catherin\, Melissa Garcia Carro and Eva Stavrou \nPerformance and presentation of the artistic process by Eva Stavrou \nThe second Castration of Uranus may be a composition for one flutist moving in space while playing. it’s to be performed as a pagan ritual. Sound and movement must constantly receive the care proper to an ancestral ceremony. \nSounds and movements aren’t synchronized as they happen\, but conceived independently of each other. The performer should embrace the fact that some movements\, torsions in particular\, can have an influence on her sound. There’s a permanent tension between the “pure” and controlled sound of the flute\, and its unavoidable distortions thanks to certain movements and positions. \nThe composition is in open form – it’s only completed by the performer’s interpretation\, the space\, its acoustics and also the audience. Each time it’s performed is therefore unique.

SUMMARY:The Bench
DESCRIPTION:Alexander Gelman\, one of the foremost important playwrights of his time\, wrote the Bench in 1983. Since then it’s been translated and played in thirty countries and it keeps being played\, because of its profound human angle but also to its bitter humour that renders it timeless and up to date during a tragicomic way. \nIt was written in the Soviet Union of the eighties\, the period before its fall\, when arbitrage and corruption prevail. The society is at an impasse as well as its people. They dream of another life in different places\, somehow differently. They get away to different worlds\, to different people’s lives\, they create fictional stories\, they evade a suffocating and intolerable routine\, claiming for an efflorescence. \nIt’s a tragicomic story of 2 lonely people. One day in some unspecified time within the future they find each other in the public park. He and she bring on stage the most vivid\, the most prolific of the themes\, Love. They walk together the route from lie to truth. A route in which lie is confused with the need for private freedom\, free reflection\, ideas. A route that in some moments lie is being the only truth. \nThey suffer and practise the everlasting game of duel between man and woman that either shall bring them closer or shall signify their movement towards loneliness.\nBoth of them look for a new start\, although they already know it’s made long ago… \nA story that might take place in every public park\, in every country. \nDirector: Giorgos Kimoulis \nActors:\nGiorgos Kimoulis\nFotini Baxevanti
