DESCRIPTION:World War II has been the deadliest conflict in human history\, the “point zero” of European and global civilization. Dozens of nations engaged in combat\, millions of people were killed\, civilians as well as soldiers\, and the largest part of Europe suffered incalculable damage. The map of the Old Continent was redrawn. \nThe Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation and the Embassy of Greece organize for the first time in Cyprus the exhibition “1940 | People and Images. Cyprus – Greece”. The exhibition presents primary evidence drawn from historical research into the World War II period\, including the participation of Cyprus and Cypriot volunteers in the fight against the Axis powers as well as significant aspects of the Greek people’s resistance. \nIt collects\, traces and displays people and images as it tells the story of the humble heroes of the war. It is a tribute to the participation of Cyprus and Greece in the 1940 campaign. DESCRIPTION:Besides being an outstanding child prodigy in music composition\, Mendelssohn was also a well-travelled cosmopolitan who enjoyed immersing himself in European cultures – a genuine European citizen of the 19th century. Between January 1829 and June 1832\, the German composer went on a grand tour around England\, Scotland\, France\, Switzerland and Italy. During this trip\, he made the acquaintance of such eminent figures as Berlioz\, Donizetti\, Glinka\, Mosheles\, Chopin\, and Meyerbeer. \nIt was in Italy where Mendelssohn completed his first piano concerto and conceived his “Italian” Symphony. This concert honours the Day of Europe\, and the CSO rises to the occasion: marvellous music by a true European\, directed by British conductor Leo McFall\, and featuring the talented Korean soloist Shinyoung Lee who studies in Germany! \nF. DESCRIPTION:A difficult and demanding solo performance to portray Anzel Kourtian in a theatrical adaptation of the book entitled “The Notebooks of Anzel Kourtian” written by Anzel Kourtian herself\, a survivor of the Armenian genocide (1915) and the Destruction of Smyrna (1922). It’s basically the story of war seen through the eyes of a child. Bursa\, Afyonkarahisar\, Smyrna\, and Mytilene are the stops of Kurtian’s roaming before she settled in the Greek island of Crete and moved later to Kokkinia in Piraeus\, where she started her own family and fulfilled her life with her children and grandchildren. the serious atmosphere of the Armenian genocide and also the Destruction of Smyrna\, the migration and the survival\, the loss of family members\, the pain and the disaster\, arouse deep emotions and chills in the hearts and souls of the spectators that become part of the events narrated on stage.
