DESCRIPTION:World War II has been the deadliest conflict in human history\, the “point zero” of European and global civilization. Dozens of nations engaged in combat\, millions of people were killed\, civilians as well as soldiers\, and the largest part of Europe suffered incalculable damage. The map of the Old Continent was redrawn. \nThe Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation and the Embassy of Greece organize for the first time in Cyprus the exhibition “1940 | People and Images. Cyprus – Greece”. The exhibition presents primary evidence drawn from historical research into the World War II period\, including the participation of Cyprus and Cypriot volunteers in the fight against the Axis powers as well as significant aspects of the Greek people’s resistance. \nIt collects\, traces and displays people and images as it tells the story of the humble heroes of the war. It is a tribute to the participation of Cyprus and Greece in the 1940 campaign. DESCRIPTION:Melusine’s Island: A Stranger’s Itinerant Observations in Cyprus \nPainting Exhibition by Canadian-Pakistani artist Sylvat Aziz. \nAn artist’s personal and visual response in the-here-and-now to Cyprus as portrayed in CVAR’s collections. \nSylvat Aziz teaches in the Visual Arts Programme at Queen’s University\, Kingston\, Ontario\, Canada\, and is cross-listed with the Gender Studies and the Cultural Studies Programmes. She is a painter and a printmaker and trained at Pratt Institute\, NYC and Montreal\, Quebec. Her research interests are based around material and political visual cultures in cross-sectional societies. She has participated nationally and internationally with her work\, including the Venice and Istanbul biennales. DESCRIPTION:Our rally has been entertaining participants and spectators for decades\, something we aim to continue with this iteration of our event. Our 47 years of experience\, and our passion for this sport\, arms us with all the resources to host a successful rally\, making sure to deliver the best possible event. \nIt is my promise\, as a member of the Organizing Committee\, and that of every volunteer of this rally\, that we will perform our duty diligently in order for us to enjoy a safe and exciting event. \nThe 2019 Cyprus Rally returns… in the Autumn (although\, I am certain that this will feel like Summer to most of you!) From the 27th until the 29th of September\, Nicosia and Larnaca will feel the pulse and rhythm of this great celebration of motorsport that we know as the Cyprus Rally 2019. \nThe main course of the event will take place on Saturday\, the 28th\, and Sunday\, the 29th of September\, with 12 classic Special Stages on a mixed surface of asphalt and gravel! It should be noted that the “mix surface” Stages were first introduced\, in our very own rally in 2009! The big change this year\, in comparison to last year’s events\, is the inclusion of semi mountainous Special Stages in Nicosia district\, that it is famous for their demanding characteristics\, spectacular vistas and turns. \nNicosia will\, of course\, host the Super Special Stage\, on Saturday at 17:00\, offering a unique show with rally cars tackling corners in the heart of the city. \nThe Start and Finish Ceremonies will remain by the sea for this year as well\, on the beachhead of Foinikoudes in Larnaca\, which befits the rally to perfection giving all our guests the chance to enjoy the sun and sea of our beautiful island\, which remains an incredibly attractive tourist destination. \nOn Friday\, the 27th of September\, at 19:00\, all crews will take their place before the Starting Ramp\, to gather applause and strength from the gathering crowd\, while on Sunday\, the 29th at 18:00\, we shall return to Larnaca in order to welcome the winners and finishers of this year’s rally. \nThe base of operations for the rally returns to Nicosia\, with the Headquarters\, Press Office and Service Park being situated in a very close proximity to each other\, at the entrance of the city\, right next to the Police Headquarters. \nTo sum up\, I would like to welcome all crews from abroad to our island\, and I am greatly looking forward to meeting all of the participants and lovers of this sport at the Start Ceremony. \nA heartfelt welcome to you all. DESCRIPTION:Under the slogan\, «Up to You(th)»\, the Youth Board of Cyprus is organizing for the fifth consecutive year the Youth Festival\, which will take place on Saturday\, September 28th at the Acropolis Park in Nicosia. \nThe event concerns youth directly\, and they are its protagonists\, since its aim is to showcase youth as one of the most vibrant and hope-bearing groups of society. \nThis year marks the 25 year anniversary of the Youth Board itself\, and this symbolism sends the message once again that the Youth Board stands by the youth of the island since its founding\, invests in their future through innovative and creative programs\, pertaining to education\, training and information-sharing. In the last 25 years\, the organization has been working diligently in order to offer to the youth\, new spaces of freedom and expression\, and to inspire them in order to be actively involved in creative sectors of social and artistic activity. \nIn this year’s Festival\, we are holding again the NGO Fair\, in collaboration with the NGO Support Center and the Cyprus Youth Council\, with the participation of more than 75 organizations (NGOs) that are active in topics related to volunteerism\, social welfare\, the environment\, culture\, human rights and others. \nMoreover\, those attending the Festival will enjoy the music of cypriot bands\, but also artists from Cameroon\, as well as short films by Cyprus-based artists\, participate in open discussions / debates\, observe alternative science experiments\, and meet ComicCon cosplayers. In addition\, the Festival will give the opportunity for the audience to witness exiting new technology advancements and applications\, to experience an alternative «human» library\, but also to become familiar with EU programs and campaigns. There will also be a kids corner\, with activities for children and a karagöz (shadow theatre) performance. \nFinally\, let us note that since 2017\, all the activities of the Youth Board\, including the Youth Festival are supported by the National Youth Strategy of Cyprus\, which is the result of the work carried out by the organization in the last 25 years\, thus imprinting the vision of the state for the youth.
