DESCRIPTION:JAZZ THE 3 OF US are performing again at Technopolis 20 in Paphos\, promising a great night full of jazz in various styles and sounds\, on Friday\, 31st of January 2020\, at 8pm. \nThe band features the deep friendship between the three musicians\, Loukas Louka on the keys\, Stefanos Pontos on the bass and guitar\, and Philipp Psillides on the drums. They have been active in the Cypriot jazz scene during the last 10 years and have had many performances as members of various other jazz ensembles in various music scenes around Cyprus. \nTheir repertoire includes well-known Jazz standards\, mainly in swing and bossa nova\, but also lesser known tracks in Jazz Rock\, Latin and Funk styles. A main characteristic of this trio\, in addition to the well-known experimentation with melody and rhythm in jazz improvisation\, is also the experimentation with different combinations of instruments and sounds on keys\, such as the combination of the organ\, the guitar and the drums without the bass. \nEntrance: 10 euro\nReservations are necessary at 70002420 (calls only). \nA few words about the musicians\nLoukas Louka is a Cypriot pianist and music teacher. He started studying classical piano from the age of 8. At the age of 22\, he begun studying jazz piano with Cypriot jazz pianist Marios Toumbas and later he had lessons on jazz improvisation with Cypriot jazz guitarist Giannos Savvides. He participated for about 2 years in the Jazz Ensembles of the European University under the instruction of Marios Toumbas and also attended the “Jazz Futures” workshops that took place in Nicosia from 2008 until 2011\, under the instruction of great jazz musicians from New York\, such as Sacha Perry\, Vahagn Hayrapetyan\, Ari Roland and Chris Byars. In 2012\, he succeeded taking the ALCM diploma in Jazz Piano of London College of Music. Since then\, he has performed as a member in several jazz combos during various events in Cyprus. Loukas is currently teaching music in elementary schools and also performing jazz music in several jazz venues all around Cyprus. \nPhilipp Psillides is a Cypriot professional drummer and instructor. He studied Jazz through the “Jazz Futures\,” a program sponsored by the U.S. Embassy\, were he had the opportunity to play with and learn Jazz from New York musicians. By the age of 21 he was offered a scholarship at the University of Nicosia\, were he majored in Jazz Performance-Drums. After graduating on 2014 Philipp travelled to New York where he took lessons from the well-known drummer Jean-Pierre Bouvet (JP Bouvet). Philipp currently lives in Cyprus and works as instructor in the private school “American International\,” in the music academy “Musicopolis” and in the private school “Falcon”. He has also been playing different styles of music\, such as jazz and latin\, with numerous bands around Cyprus. \nStefanos Pontos is a musician and sound engineer from Cyprus. He studied jazz guitar at the European University of Nicosia and since then has worked with various jazz artists of the island. After his graduation he studied jazz improvisation for another three years with John Savvides. He later moved to the United Kingdom to study Sound engineering and Tour Management. After gaining his diploma he worked for various PA companies and bands on music events and festivals in the UK and abroad. He was one of the in-house sound engineers at BIMM (British Institute of Modern Music) in Brighton\, where he also taught Basic Recording Skills. He was the sound engineer on the weekly masterclasses where he worked with a lot of guest artists like Morris Pleasure\, Jennifer Batten\, Guthrie Govan\, Sid Wilson\, Adam Wakeman\, Remi Kabaka.

It is with great pleasure that a legendary musician over 90 years old\, known as the doyen of flutists\, will perform\, in one of his rare appearances\, on the same stage with his youngest daughter\, the excellent pianist Aglaia Graf. \nThe programme will begin with Mozart and will be leaded through romantic compositions by Schumann\, Grieg and Rachmaninov\, to French and American pieces by Chaminade and Scott Joplin. \nAfter the concert\, please join us for your drink in the bar and you will have the opportunity to meet the artists and finish your night with some small presentations by the artists\, including flute solo\, as a goodnight to the audience. \nNot to be missed! \nEntrance: 15 euro (including a drink)\nReservations are necessary at 70002420 (calls only). \nA few words about the musicians\nToday Peter-Lukas Graf is regarded as the doyen of flutists of international reputation. He looks back on a long and diversified musical career. After beginning as an orchestral musician\, he established himself as a soloist\, chamber musician and conductor through worldwide concert activities.\nPeter-Lukas Graf was born in Zürich. He studied flute with André Jaunet (Zürich)\, Marcel Moyse and Roger Cortet (Paris). He was awarded the First Prize as flautist and the Conductors Diploma at the Conservatoire Nationale de Paris. During three years he studied conducting in Munich. Graf won the First Prize at the International Music Contest of the ARD in Munich and the Bablock Prize of the H. Cohen International Music Award in London. The multi-talented musician was appointed the youngest principal flutist at the Winterthur Symphony Orchestra and at the Lucerne Festival Orchestra with additional conducting responsibilities. It followed a period of full time opera and symphonic conducting. At the age of 21 Graf’s recording of the Ibert Flute Concerto earned him immediate and overwhelming international recognition. Since then he made concert tours internationally as well as numerous recordings\, television- and radio-productions and has performed in many international music festivals.\nHe was a professor at the Basle Music Academy during more than 20 years and still gives master classes internationally. He is documented by an extensive Many LP and CD productions have been produced all over the years. In addition to his concert and teaching activities\, he has published several didactic works with the edition Schott. The Academy of Music Krakow (Poland) awarded him the title Doctor honoris causa. From the USA National Flute Association he receives the Lifetime Achievement Award 2005\, while from the Italian Flute Society Falaut he receives the Premio alla Carriera Flauto d’Oro. \nAt the age of 14 years old\, Aglaia Graf played her debut with orchestra and began her professional musical studies in the class of Adrian Oetiker at the «Hochschule für Musik Basel» in Switzerland. After having received her Master’s in Performance with distinction in 2007\, she furthered her studies in Paris and in Vienna. Graf then finished her studies in the class of Ronald Brautigam whilst working intensively with Claudio Martinez-Mehner. She has also appeared in public Masterclasses with Pianists such as: Andràs Schiff\, P.Badura-Skoda\, Klaus Hellwig\, Andzrej Jasinski\, Dimitri Bashkirov and Ferenc Rados.\nBeside her extensive solo career\, where Graf performs in festivals such as the Lucerne piano Festival\, the Gstaad Festival and the Davos Festival\, she also often performs her own compositions around Europe and Russia to great acclaim. Graf has also appeared with more than 25 piano concertos as a soloist with orchestras such as: the Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich\, the Würzburg Philharmonic Orchestra\, the South West German Philharmonic Orchestra\, the Zhenzhen Orchestra in China\, the British National Wind Orchestra and the Göttinger Symphony Orchestra.\nAglaia Graf played concerts in many European countries but also in Japan\, China and Russia. She has performed in halls such as the Wiener Musikverein\, the Wigmore Hall\, the Philharmony in Moscow and in St. Petersburg and the Tonhalle Zürich. She has won many national and international awards\, prizes and grants. Among many others\, Aglaia was the recipient of the prestigious «European Kulturförderpreis».\nGraf loves to play Chamber Music as well. Alongside her duo with Cellist\, Ben Gregor-Smith\, she also performs regularly with the Flautist\, Peter-Lukas Graf with whom she has toured internationally and recorded the authentic Flute Sonatas by J.S Bach on CD.

Then\, carving out old tunes and notes\, we expanded our musical map to other musical wanderings. Therefore\, in this musical performance\, the duet will be playing music and songs made out of silk scarves\, music and songs that were made in the old way of thinking but sound fresh in our ears. We will hear songs we loved and you loved\, songs that travelled us and travelled you through time: the present\, the past and the future. \nEnjoy a beautiful evening\, with lovely melodies by the truly Cypriot talented musicians Evagoras Karageorgis and Pavlina Constantopoulou\, at Technopolis 20\, on Friday\, 17th of January 2020\, at 8pm. \nEntrance: 10 euro\nReservations are necessary at 70002420 (calls only). \nA few words about the musicians\nEvagoras Karageorgis: Composer\, music teacher\, lute player. Born in Paphos-Cyprus\, in 1957. He studied music at the Aaron Copland School of Music (City University of New York) with Allen Brings and Leo Kraft (1982-1988) – B.A. in Music and M.A. in Music Composition. During 1988-89\, he continued postgraduate studies at N.Y.U.\, studying composition with the Menahem Zur and Philosophy of the Arts with David Echer\, Ethnomusicology and Electronic Music.\nSince 1989\, he is working as music teacher for the Public Schools of Cyprus. He composed music for all major theater companies of Cyprus (THOC\, ETHAL\, Satiricon\, THEPAC\, ENA) working on a vast variety of theatrical productions. In parallel\, he worked with the CBS TV\, writing music for various film series and documentaries.\nHis musical compositions cover a vast spectrum of styles: Art songs\, music for theater and TV\, music for small or chamber ensembles\, symphonic music\, electronic music\, music concrete and other more experimental works.\nSo far\, he published various recordings with his music and cycles of songs based on dialectic poets of Cyprus as well as on neo-hellenic poetry. For the last 30 years he has been giving performances with his own works in Cyprus\, Greece\, Crete\, Germany\, France\, England\, Italy\, Albania\, Slovakia and Czech Republic. \nPavlina Constantopoulou was born in Nicosia in 1982. She studied Musicology at the Music department of the Athens University. She holds a Degree in Guitar from Trinity College of London and also an 8th Grade in Piano Performance and Theory of Music. In Greece\, she studied Polyphonic Eperotic Song at the Phivos Anoyianakis Museum of Popular Instruments. She was a member of the polyphonic ensemble Haonia and gave a lot of concerts all over Greece.\nFor a decade she lived in Athens as a musician\, song writer\, singer\, performer and guitar and theory teacher. Many times\, she represented Cyprus in European and International Festivals abroad (England\, France\, Germany\, Luxemburg\, Belgium\, Spain\, Serbia\, Slovakia\, Check).\nShe worked with a lot of musicians and composers (M. Christodoulides\, E. Karageorgis\, St. Kypreou\, V. Lekkas\, E. Liougos\, Al. Kayialoglou\, D. Demosthenous\, A. Georgiou\, Orchestra of Colours\, E. Vamvakousis\, S. Houvartas\, L. Moumtzis\, D. Constantopoulos\, The handmade Band\, Travmaties Kanape).\nShe is participating in 11 CD publications with her own songs and performances. Today\, she lives and works in Cyprus as guitar and theory teacher\, while teaching and directing the Polyphonic Ensemble «Eidekanou» in Eperotic and South-Italian polyphonic song singing. She often gives concerts as a solo artist and also collaborates with various musicians and bands.

DESCRIPTION:Live broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera \nAfter wowing audiences with his astounding production of Lulu in 2015\, South African artist William Kentridge now focuses his extraordinary visual imagination on Berg’s other operatic masterpiece\, set in an apocalyptic pre–World War I environment. \nMet Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin is on the podium for this important event\, with baritone Peter Mattei making his highly anticipated role debut as the title character. Soprano Elza van den Heever is Wozzeck’s unfaithful mate\, and the commanding cast also includes tenor Christopher Ventris as the Drum-Major\, bass-baritone Christian Van Horn as the Doctor\, and tenor Gerhard Siegel as the Captain. \nWorld Premiere: Staatsoper\, Berlin\, 1925. One of the emblematic achievements of the thriving artistic forces in Germany and Austria during the brief period between world wars\, Wozzeck was a sensation and a scandal at its premiere. Remarkably\, it has lost none of its power to fascinate\, shock\, and engage audiences\, and its status as one of the defining musical works of the 20th century has not blunted its vitality. \nCreators: Among the most visionary and influential composers of the 20th century\, Alban Berg (1885–1935) came of age amid an explosion of artistic and intellectual creativity in Vienna. His vocal and instrumental writing merges the revolutionary techniques of Arnold Schoenberg with the grandeur of such late Romantic composers as Gustav Mahler. The libretto is Berg’s own close adaptation of the play Woyzeck by Georg Büchner (1813–1837). \nSetting: Berg did not specify a time or location for the opera. The background of Büchner’s play has led to the assumption of Leipzig\, Germany\, circa 1821\, as an appropriate setting\, but the work’s universal ideas far outweigh any forced attempt at historical accuracy. William Kentridge’s new production updates the action to the period before the First World War. \nMusic: Berg’s score encapsulates the artistic ideals of Expressionism in music—emphasizing the unseen and the subconscious by focusing on the symbolic rather than the concrete. Atonality and whole-tone composition coexist in Berg’s score with moments of romanticism and melody. The vocal writing ranges from pure speech to declaimed speech with musical inflections to melodic singing. Recurring motifs are used but not in the strict Wagnerian sense of a musical phrase attached to a specific character or idea. \nRunning time 92’
