DESCRIPTION:NiMAC (The Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre\, associated with the Pierides Foundation)\, organises and presents “hypersurfacing”— a project curated by Marina Christodoulidou. \nOn the occasion of the 25th anniversary of NiMAC\, the project seeks to showcase the plurality of practices among Cypriot contemporary artists\, and will unfold via two platforms: an exhibition and a forum. \nThe exhibition\, opening on 29 November 2019\, will present new body of work by twelve Cypriot contemporary artists: Raissa Angeli\, Peter Eramian\, Stelios Kallinikou\, Lito Kattou\, Phanos Kyriacou\, Orestis Lazouras\, Nayia Savva\, Constantinos Taliotis\, Maria Toumazou\, Leontios Toumpouris\, Marina Xenofontos\, Natalie Yiaxi. \nStarting in early November\, the forum will involve a group of international curators who\, in collaboration with the participating artists\, will attempt to activate a space for creative exchanges and meetings. Curators Ioanna Gerakide\, Ryan Inouye\, Katarina Kostandinović\, Luca Lo Pinto\, Salma Tuqan\, and Andrés Valtierra will be participating in the forum. A series of events will be open to the public. \nFeaturing photography\, film\, sculpture\, sound\, text\, installations\, and spatial compositions\, the exhibition evolves around the concept of the surface\, foregrounding its inherent presence in the work of the artists. \nAccording to the curator\, “surface is understood here as a site of emergence\, where material and conceptual exchanges enable artists to articulate thoughts. It stands as the most directly apparent aspect of our environment\, material or immaterial\, and emerges\, hence\, as a process of becoming perceptible. The state of being hyper\, on the other hand\, presupposes a mode of over-being. And when it meets the surface\, the hyper opens up to possibilities beyond materiality and signification.” \nTaking the notion of the hypersurface as a starting point\, the exhibition sets out to explore the prospects that arise when one witnesses an event or a process of anticipation. To do so\, the artists have posited the hypersurface in their own areas of interest and research\, and delved into subjects ranging from natural and urban landscapes to autobiographical and imaginary relationships\, material and immaterial studies\, fact and fiction. DESCRIPTION:Satiriko Theatro presents “The Servant of Two Masters”\, a comedy by the Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni\, adapted and directed by Marianna Kafkaridou. \nThe Servant of Two Masters (Il servitore di due padroni) is a classic Italian comedy in the Commedia dell’Arte tradition\, focussing on the attempts of the resourceful and ever-hungry Truffaldino to serve two different masters without either of them finding out. \nIt was written in 1745 at the request of actor Antonio Sacco\, one of the great Truffaldinos in history\, and first performed in Milan as a ‘scenario’ in which only the lovers’ dialogues were fully scripted. Later it moved into the Teatro San Samuele\, Venice\, for the season 1745-46. A full version was eventually published in 1753. \n(in Greek)

DESCRIPTION:Innovation – Experimentation – Collaboration \nThe Global Game Jam® (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam event (game creation) taking place around the world at physical locations. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development. It is the growth of an idea that in today’s heavily connected world\, we could come together\, be creative\, share experiences and express ourselves in a multitude of ways using video games – it is very universal. The weekend stirs a global creative buzz in games\, while at the same time exploring the process of development\, be it programming\, iterative design\, narrative exploration or artistic expression. It is all condensed into a 48 hour development cycle. The GGJ encourages people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate and contribute to this global spread of game development and creativity. \nThe structure of a jam is usually that everyone gathers on Friday late afternoon\, watches a short video keynote with advice from leading game developers\, and then a secret theme is announced. All sites worldwide are then challenged to make games based on that same theme\, with games to be completed by Sunday afternoon. In January 2019\, we had 860 locations in 113 countries create 9\,010 games in one weekend! GGJ 2020 is 31 January – 2 February at a location near you… if not you can make one of your own. The jam is known for helping foster new friendships\, increase confidence and opportunities within the community. The jam is always an intellectual challenge. DESCRIPTION:JAZZ THE 3 OF US are performing again at Technopolis 20 in Paphos\, promising a great night full of jazz in various styles and sounds\, on Friday\, 31st of January 2020\, at 8pm. \nThe band features the deep friendship between the three musicians\, Loukas Louka on the keys\, Stefanos Pontos on the bass and guitar\, and Philipp Psillides on the drums. They have been active in the Cypriot jazz scene during the last 10 years and have had many performances as members of various other jazz ensembles in various music scenes around Cyprus. \nTheir repertoire includes well-known Jazz standards\, mainly in swing and bossa nova\, but also lesser known tracks in Jazz Rock\, Latin and Funk styles. A main characteristic of this trio\, in addition to the well-known experimentation with melody and rhythm in jazz improvisation\, is also the experimentation with different combinations of instruments and sounds on keys\, such as the combination of the organ\, the guitar and the drums without the bass. \nEntrance: 10 euro\nReservations are necessary at 70002420 (calls only). \nA few words about the musicians\nLoukas Louka is a Cypriot pianist and music teacher. He started studying classical piano from the age of 8. At the age of 22\, he begun studying jazz piano with Cypriot jazz pianist Marios Toumbas and later he had lessons on jazz improvisation with Cypriot jazz guitarist Giannos Savvides. He participated for about 2 years in the Jazz Ensembles of the European University under the instruction of Marios Toumbas and also attended the “Jazz Futures” workshops that took place in Nicosia from 2008 until 2011\, under the instruction of great jazz musicians from New York\, such as Sacha Perry\, Vahagn Hayrapetyan\, Ari Roland and Chris Byars. In 2012\, he succeeded taking the ALCM diploma in Jazz Piano of London College of Music. Since then\, he has performed as a member in several jazz combos during various events in Cyprus. Loukas is currently teaching music in elementary schools and also performing jazz music in several jazz venues all around Cyprus. \nPhilipp Psillides is a Cypriot professional drummer and instructor. He studied Jazz through the “Jazz Futures\,” a program sponsored by the U.S. Embassy\, were he had the opportunity to play with and learn Jazz from New York musicians. By the age of 21 he was offered a scholarship at the University of Nicosia\, were he majored in Jazz Performance-Drums. After graduating on 2014 Philipp travelled to New York where he took lessons from the well-known drummer Jean-Pierre Bouvet (JP Bouvet). Philipp currently lives in Cyprus and works as instructor in the private school “American International\,” in the music academy “Musicopolis” and in the private school “Falcon”. He has also been playing different styles of music\, such as jazz and latin\, with numerous bands around Cyprus. \nStefanos Pontos is a musician and sound engineer from Cyprus. He studied jazz guitar at the European University of Nicosia and since then has worked with various jazz artists of the island. After his graduation he studied jazz improvisation for another three years with John Savvides. He later moved to the United Kingdom to study Sound engineering and Tour Management. After gaining his diploma he worked for various PA companies and bands on music events and festivals in the UK and abroad. He was one of the in-house sound engineers at BIMM (British Institute of Modern Music) in Brighton\, where he also taught Basic Recording Skills. He was the sound engineer on the weekly masterclasses where he worked with a lot of guest artists like Morris Pleasure\, Jennifer Batten\, Guthrie Govan\, Sid Wilson\, Adam Wakeman\, Remi Kabaka.
