DESCRIPTION:NiMAC (The Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre\, associated with the Pierides Foundation)\, organises and presents “hypersurfacing”— a project curated by Marina Christodoulidou. \nOn the occasion of the 25th anniversary of NiMAC\, the project seeks to showcase the plurality of practices among Cypriot contemporary artists\, and will unfold via two platforms: an exhibition and a forum. \nThe exhibition\, opening on 29 November 2019\, will present new body of work by twelve Cypriot contemporary artists: Raissa Angeli\, Peter Eramian\, Stelios Kallinikou\, Lito Kattou\, Phanos Kyriacou\, Orestis Lazouras\, Nayia Savva\, Constantinos Taliotis\, Maria Toumazou\, Leontios Toumpouris\, Marina Xenofontos\, Natalie Yiaxi. \nStarting in early November\, the forum will involve a group of international curators who\, in collaboration with the participating artists\, will attempt to activate a space for creative exchanges and meetings. Curators Ioanna Gerakide\, Ryan Inouye\, Katarina Kostandinović\, Luca Lo Pinto\, Salma Tuqan\, and Andrés Valtierra will be participating in the forum. A series of events will be open to the public. \nFeaturing photography\, film\, sculpture\, sound\, text\, installations\, and spatial compositions\, the exhibition evolves around the concept of the surface\, foregrounding its inherent presence in the work of the artists. \nAccording to the curator\, “surface is understood here as a site of emergence\, where material and conceptual exchanges enable artists to articulate thoughts. It stands as the most directly apparent aspect of our environment\, material or immaterial\, and emerges\, hence\, as a process of becoming perceptible. The state of being hyper\, on the other hand\, presupposes a mode of over-being. And when it meets the surface\, the hyper opens up to possibilities beyond materiality and signification.” \nTaking the notion of the hypersurface as a starting point\, the exhibition sets out to explore the prospects that arise when one witnesses an event or a process of anticipation. To do so\, the artists have posited the hypersurface in their own areas of interest and research\, and delved into subjects ranging from natural and urban landscapes to autobiographical and imaginary relationships\, material and immaterial studies\, fact and fiction. DESCRIPTION:Acknowledging the presence and influence of Jazz and World Music genres on the Cypriot contemporary music creation\, the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education\, Culture\, Sports and Youth\, the Cyprus Music Information Centre and the Rialto Theatre organized in 2014 the 1st Jazz and World Music Showcase. Following five successful editions\, the 6th Cyprus Jazz & World Music Showcase\, presents eight different bands and more than forty artists\, showing a global picture of the contemporary Cypriot music creation. \nFriends of jazz and world music will have this year\, the opportunity to listen to the original music of Cypriot artists\, which is influenced by jazz and world music from various countries and regions such as Cyprus\, Greece\, the Balkans\, the Middle East and more. \nAlongside to the festival’s main program a series of side events are organized\, such as workshops and discussions with foreign guests\, emphasis is given by the organisation on informing and educating the artists. SUMMARY:Viennese Christmas Concert 2019
DESCRIPTION:The Cyprus Association for children suffering with cancer and related diseases “One Wish One Dream”\, in collaboration with the Austrian Embassy in Cyprus\, is organizing the “VIENNESE CHRISTMAS CONCERT 2019” on Thursday\, December 5th at 8 p.m. at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia. The concert is under the auspices of Mrs Antri Anastasiades\, spouse of the President of the Republic of Cyprus. \nInternational known artists like the Soprano Chryso Makariou\, who is based in Vienna and the Austrian Tenor Martin Mairingerwill present a wonderful programm accompanied by members of the famous “Vienna Classic Orchestra” who will come directly from Vienna for this concert. During the concert will be also presented as part of the “Promotion of Cypriot Young Lyric Singers and Talents”\, the singers soprano Maria Poulli\, Nefeli Antoniou and the choir of the music school in Nicosia “A Piacere” under the artistic direction of Nikoletta Stylianou and Antigoni Fotiou. \nThe audience will have the chance to enjoy popular Christmas songs as well as the Highlights of Viennese Opereta and Valses. \nThe established Christmas concert “Viennese Christmas” was first held in Nicosia in 2015 and has been organized since then every year with great success\, once in Nicosia and once in Vienna\, always supporting the work of the Cyprus Association “One Wish One Dream”. \nThe net proceeds of the event will be given to the association “One Wish One Dream” \nTickets: www.soldoutticketbox.com/
