SUMMARY:1st Cyprus Choreography Showcase 2020
DESCRIPTION:The Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education\, Culture\, Sport and Youth\, and Rialto Theatre launch a new institution in the field of Contemporary Dance. The 1st Cyprus Choreography Showcase (CCS) is already in its final stage of preparation and it will be presented to professionals from abroad and to the public on the 7th and 8th of March at the Rialto Theatre. \nThis new institution is aiming to present selected works that were choreographed and presented in Cyprus within a period of two years. Specifically\, CCS aims to provide opportunities to choreographers who create in Cyprus\, to present their work to artistic directors and organizers of contemporary dance festivals abroad\, who are specifically invited for this purpose. \nIn that way\, the choreographers’ efforts for international promotion are enhanced\, by presenting their works abroad. At the same time\, the Showcase presents the most significant choreographic proposals of the past two years to the local public. \nA Selection Committee was set up to select the performances. SUMMARY:Fengaros Music Village 2020
DESCRIPTION:Fengaros Music Village returns to the village of Kato Drys this summer from the 23rd to the 28th of July\, providing arts education through a series of music and theater workshops. The workshops will take place daily during the morning and afternoon hours\, filling the traditional Cypriot village with music and creativity. Attendees will be able to choose from nine workshops taught by industry professionals with expertise in fields ranging from jazz and popular music\, to film scoring\, to acting\, and to non-western musical traditions. This year’s instructors will include artists from Cyprus\, Spain\, Greece\, USA and Germany. Participating in Fengaros Music Village will expose attendees to a new network and community of artists. Now in its seventh edition\, the event has become an institution and is one of the most important meetings on the island for musicians from Cyprus and abroad. \nThroughout the years\, Fengaros Music Village has functioned as the birthplace of many musical and artistic collaborations and projects. In recent years\, participants have gone on to accomplish several music releases\, numerous festival and concert performances in Cyprus and abroad\, not to mention access to a nurturing networking pool of music and arts creatives based in Cyprus. Each year\, a group of student participants form an ensemble under the guidance of the resident artist\, and performs as the opening act of Fengaros Festival\, an international open air music festival which takes place after Fengaros Music Village. \nThe aim of Fengaros Music Village is to foster productive knowledge and idea exchange between artists of varied backgrounds\, including workshop instructors and participants alike. Each evening free concerts are available to the public followed by jam sessions in the village’s cafe. DESCRIPTION:A Midsummer Night’s Dream is Shakespeare’s most popular romantic comedy. \nFour Lovers become entangled in a magical forest alongside the feuding King and Queen of the Fairies and a group of Tradesmen rehearsing a play to be performed at the Duke’s wedding to the Queen of the Amazons. \nMischief\, mistaken identities\, magic potions and Shakespeare’s wit combine to make sense of a topsy turvy world! \nMore about the event:\n“The Dream”\, is produced by The Performing Arts for Cyprus Charities which stages an annual production of Shakespeare at the Ancient Kourion Amphitheatre. It features an international cast of children and adults and is directed by Polina Isakharova. Many of the characters and their escapades will be already familiar to audiences: the Lovers – Hermia\, Lysander\, Demetrius and Helena – and their romantic tangle\, the Rude Mechanicals\, especially Bottom\, with their hilarious Pyramus and Thisbe play and the mischievous sprite Puck who alongside Oberon and Titania weave the magic of the forest into the play. For the first time\, the subversive speech and the explosive humor of Georges Fedo meet music\, in an original composition of Phoebus Delivorias. \n“Ladies’ Tailor”\, Fento’s most famous work – he wrote it at the age of twenty-five\, in 1887\, knowing his first great success – is a classic\, enjoyable comedy full of surprises\, clever humor and stormy action. Marital infidelity becomes the tool to satirize hypocrisy\, modesty and petty bourgeois manners\, creating the image of the ultimate farce. \nPlot \nIn 1890 Paris\, Belle’s Epoch\, Toulouse-Lautrec\, Montmartre and Moulin Rouge\, Georges Feido wrote the situation comedy “Ladies’ Tailor” (1887)\, which is admittedly considered his best work. \nIn a Paris neighborhood\, a doctor returns early in the morning to the marital home after a failed attempt at infidelity. There\, his servant\, his wife and then his mother-in-law\, wait for him\, while his best friend tries to rent him an apartment which later turns into a love nest-tailor shop. \nEncounters that should not have happened\, truths that end up in conditional lies\, constant role changes and comically unexpected situations\, compose an image of absolute prank.
