The map of the Old Continent was redrawn. \nThe Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation and the Embassy of Greece organize for the first time in Cyprus the exhibition “1940 | People and Images. Cyprus – Greece”. The exhibition presents primary evidence drawn from historical research into the World War II period\, including the participation of Cyprus and Cypriot volunteers in the fight against the Axis powers as well as significant aspects of the Greek people’s resistance. \nIt collects\, traces and displays people and images as it tells the story of the humble heroes of the war. It is a tribute to the participation of Cyprus and Greece in the 1940 campaign. DESCRIPTION:“Uranus’s second castration: piece for a dancing flutist”\, by Brice Catherin\, Melissa Garcia Carro and Eva Stavrou \nPerformance and presentation of the artistic process by Eva Stavrou \nThe second Castration of Uranus may be a composition for one flutist moving in space while playing. it’s to be performed as a pagan ritual. Sound and movement must constantly receive the care proper to an ancestral ceremony. \nSounds and movements aren’t synchronized as they happen\, but conceived independently of each other. The performer should embrace the fact that some movements\, torsions in particular\, can have an influence on her sound. There’s a permanent tension between the “pure” and controlled sound of the flute\, and its unavoidable distortions thanks to certain movements and positions. \nThe composition is in open form – it’s only completed by the performer’s interpretation\, the space\, its acoustics and also the audience. Each time it’s performed is therefore unique.

DESCRIPTION:Windcraft Loud\, in collaboration with A. Vafea Jazz projects\, presents a seminar on “Improvisation in contemporary music” with renowned saxophonist and composer Vasilis Xenopoulos. \nThe seminar is split in 2 parts – theory and praxis. the first part will attempt to approach improvisation through the historical development of different styles of jazz – from ragtime to blues and swing\, up to modern bebop and fusion. there will be a presentation and analysis of the foremost common scales that are in use in contemporary music\, like major/minor pentatonics\, blues scales and jazz modes\, with an association (through the degrees of scale) to the traditional scales of western music. \nThe second a part of the seminar will be practical\, with the participants applying theory on their instruments. Improvisation in different styles of modern music\, such as jazz\, funk and latin\, are going to be explored and applied. \nThe workshop addresses performers of any melodic instrument at any level of expertise and will last 2 hours.

The festival proudly releases 3 titles of the multi- awarded films which will be presented this year: girl by Lukas Dhont\, Dogman by Matteo Garrone\, and also the Guilty by Gustav Möller. \nThe festival will take place from the 12th to the 20th of April 2019\, and it’ll culminate with the Awards Ceremony at the Rialto Theatre.

DESCRIPTION:The performance was staged by the renowned Kaluga Regional Drama Theater\, which is the same age as Alexander Pushkin and\, in 242 years of its existence\, has preserved and enhanced the best traditions of Russian theatre art. \nThe play was created on the premise of the novel “Outside the Earth” by the outstanding Russian scientist and inventor\, the founder of theoretical cosmonautics\, K. Tsiolkovsky. \nThe story of the novel says that between the highest picks of the Himalayas is a beautiful castle is hidden- the dwelling of people. Several scientists\, philosophers\, researchers and inventors have recently settled in it. Disappointment in people and also the joys of life drove the heroes into solitude and united into a fraternal hermit family. \nWhat do these highly intelligent hermits dream about? of course\, how to make people fly into space. Four scientists\, fanatically devoted to science\, are developing an ambitious 1st space travel plan. They make calculations\, design and build a spacecraft\, and then\, taking with them 2 curious girls\, start from the earth. \nThe spectator can witness a takeoff with heavy overloads and astronauts hovering in zero gravity.
