SUMMARY:Maria Kalogeropoulou Callas\, The Woman and The Artist
DESCRIPTION:The event is the greatest homage ever presented in Cyprus about the life and work of the most important soprano of the 20th century\, Maria Kalogeropoulou\, known as Maria Callas (1923-1977). The performance presents her artistic career\, from her early steps in the field of lyrical theatre to her unexpected death. \nWord and music are combined harmoniously by the two protagonists\, the soprano Chryso Makariou and the actor Achilleas Grammatikopoulos. Mr. Grammatikopoulos plays the role of a director who is about to direct a production regarding the Greek Diva but does not know enough about her and Ms. Makariou presents with her vocal skills the role-heroines that marked and established Callas as the absolute Opera Diva. The two protagonists are accompanied by the internationally-renowned Bulgarian Baritone Krum Galabov\, the Pianist Zbynek Marouska and on the flute by Theodoros Krasidis. \nThe conception of the event combines\, in addition to the interpretation of the most characteristic arias and opera scenes of Callas\, audiovisual material in the form of collages\, rare photographic material and interviews. The tremendous work of the research was undertaken by the Historian Musicologist Dr Spyridoula Katsarou\, while the editing was made by Maria Avraam. The monologue / narrative is based on unique sources and archives\, amongst others\, such as the one of ERT (Greek National Television)\, the National Opera of Athens\, the National Conservatory of Athens\, as well as large collections of personal items and letters by Maria Callas from private collectors. \nThe homage aims at the most complete presentation of Maria Kalogeropoulou as a personality with specific ideas and perceptions about art and especially about opera\, as a person in all its dimensions and expressions as a continuously evolving musician in dialogue with her audience\, as a creator of a particular image: La Callas.

DESCRIPTION:Event 3 in the 2019 NICOSIA STREET QUEST series will be held\, on TUESDAY 28TH MAY\, from CVAR. Registration opens at 1900 hrs and closes at 1945 hrs. Start times will be available half an hour earlier at 1830 hrs for people with school children\, all others between 1900 hrs and 1945 hrs. Last start time will be 2000 hrs. Entry fees are €2 per person. Maps and question sheets will be provided at the start. \nYour “Quest” is to navigate to up to 20 location points on the map of Nicosia (within the city walls) and answer a simple\, non-cryptic question at each location (eg – what is the colour of the door at number 18? How many mannequins in the shop window?). Each question is worth either 10\, 20 or 30 points. There will also be a BONUS Question at each event worth 50 points. The total time allowed is 60 minutes. There will be 5 penalty point for every minute late back. So please make sure you are back within an hour from your start time. \nYou will need a pen to mark your answers on the question sheet. You are advised to wear comfortable walking/running shoes and light coloured clothing (ideally reflective) for extra visibility. A small torch may be useful to assist your eyesight when reading the map. Electronic timing will be used. Individuals and teams of up to four people will be permitted.
