DESCRIPTION:The first festival of new music to have been inaugurated in Cyprus\, in 2009\, the International Pharos Contemporary Music Festival is rooted in the Pharos Arts Foundation’s deep commitment to music creativity and innovation. Providing a platform for composers to collaborate with some of the most important soloists and ensembles in the world so that they develop new projects and explore new sound worlds\, the Pharos Contemporary Music Festival has been decisive in acquainting the general audience of Cyprus with the music of our times. Join BirdLife Cyprus at the bird hide and at the tables next to the south parking area (Latsia entrance)\, from 9 am to 12 pm to spend a day in the wondrous world of birds with a bird ringing demonstration\, birdwatching and creative activities. \nBird migration is among the wonders of the natural world. From the smallest of songbirds weighing just a few grams to the most majestic of raptors soaring through the skies\, birds and their epic journeys never fail to fascinate us. Now is the time when millions of birds are leaving Europe to travel towards Africa where they will spend the winter. For many of these birds\, Cyprus is in the itinerary as our island is located on one of the major migration corridors connecting Europe with Africa. A short video on her voluntary work has been posted on the European website for the European Year of Volunteerism 2011. Demetra writes tales\, short stories and poetry\, which have received prizes both in Greece and Cyprus. Her first book “Mary and the White Pea” deals with the topic of child cancer. Her poetry collection “Truths\, Dreams and Peace” was nominated for the Cyprus National Children Literature Award 2017 and was awarded by the Cyprus IBBY – Cyprus Association of Children’s and Young Adults’ Books (2016). Her third book ‘Dad in a Cage’ deals with the special topic of parental imprisonment. \nTHE ILLUSTRATOR\nEfrosini Mavrou\, having studied in London\, has been engaged in fashion design and cloth creation for several years. Being experienced in various fields of art (stage design\, painting\, silk screen printing\, doll making\, cut-out art)\, she is now working exclusively on drawing\, book illustration and leads creative workshops for children and older people.

Leventis Gallery in the context of the monthly Wednesday Lectures\, is pleased to announce the lecture “Christian Dior\, The Story of a Myth”. \nFrom his first collection ‘The New Look’ in 1947\, which revolutionized women’s fashion and was characterized as ‘the return to an ideal of civilized happiness’ through to his “lunch / dinner” outfits in 1954 which adapted to the lifestyle of modern women\, while emphasizing the naturalness of fashion\, Dior has proved to be one of the most influential couturiers of the 20th century. Achieving wide international recognition from early on due to the innovation of both his designs and his business practices\, he was rightfully recognized as the most successful fashion designer in the world. Favoured by film stars and royalty alike\, the house of Dior has and continues to be at the forefront of the fashion industry until today. \nThis lecture will follow the history of the legendary fashion house\, providing a unique insight into its past\, present and future. \nWe are honored to welcome Philippe Le Moult\, General Secretary of the association “Presence of Christian Dior” who manages the Christian Dior museum\, Granville and who is responsible for the institutional relations of the House Dior. Through his duties\, Philippe Le Moult has actively worked to develop the activities of the Christian Dior museum as well as helped to forge close relationships between the City of Granville and Dior homes.
