DESCRIPTION:Event 8 in the 2019 NICOSIA STREET QUEST series will be held\, on TUESDAY 29TH OCTOBER\, from CVAR. Registration opens at 1900 hrs and closes at 1945 hrs. Start times will be available half an hour earlier at 1830 hrs for people with school children\, all others between 1900 hrs and 2000 hrs. Last start time will be 2000 hrs. Entry fees are €2 per person. Maps and question sheets will be provided at the start. \nYour “Quest” is to navigate to up to 20 location points on the map of Nicosia (within the city walls) and answer a simple\, non-cryptic question at each location (eg – what is the colour of the door at number 18? How many mannequins in the shop window?). Each question is worth either 10\, 20 or 30 points. There will also be a BONUS Question at each event worth 50 points. The total time allowed is 60 minutes. There will be 5 penalty point for every minute late back. So please make sure you are back within an hour from your start time. \nYou will need a pen to mark your answers on the question sheet. You are advised to wear comfortable walking/running shoes and light colored clothing (ideally reflective) for extra visibility. A small torch may be useful to assist your eyesight when reading the map. Electronic timing will be used. Individuals and teams of up to four people will be permitted. Points will be shared equally among team members. Children under twelve must be accompanied by an adult. All participants take part at their own risk. DESCRIPTION:The new temporary exhibition of A. G. Leventis Gallery is dedicated to the leaders of Belgian Impressionism as well as to the movements that developed after them. Selected works from Museums and private collections from Belgium\, Greece and Cyprus\, showcase the evolution of Belgian Impressionism\, from mid-19th to the beginning of 20th century. The exhibition is a retrospective to Belgian Impressionists and the group which\, in their attempt to reclaim some of the limelight from their more famous French counterparts\, have discovered unique ways in handling light\, emphasising on ‘sensation’ rather than ‘impression’. \nThe exhibition will focus on the movement’s most celebrated exponents\, bringing together works from leading Belgian museums\, but also treasures from celebrated private collections\, many hitherto unseen and unpublished. Following on from the precursors of Realism in Belgium\, such as Hippolyte Boulenger and Charles Hermans\, the exhibition will dwell on the flourishing of plein-air painting in Belgium in the late 19th century\, through works by Félicien Rops\, Théo van Rysselberghe\, Guillaume Vogels and James Ensor\, among others. SUMMARY:Musical Bridges - The Piano Quartet
DESCRIPTION:The Piano Quartet came out of the need by four pianists to sidestep the loneliness of the solo player\, the solitary long hours of practicing and even the solitude of the stage performance. “This loneliness is something we grow up with but it does not mean we are loners as characters”\, writes the creator of the project Musical Bridges\, Dr. Galina Dimova-Georgieva. There are many examples of great pianists who sought the collaboration with fellow musicians in their career\, Nicolas Economou’s pioneering collaboration “On Four Pianos” in 1983\, being a case in point. Natalia Lezedova\, Nina Ioannidou\, Ivelina Ruseva and Galina Dimova played at a concert during the Winter Music Festival 2017 in Paphos and decided to develop a program with predominantly six and eight hands works instead of the usual solos or duets. Three concerts came out of this idea and Musical Bridges is the third series. \nThe Paphos-based four pianists\, originally come from different backgrounds (Cyprus\, Greece\, Bulgaria and Russia) and the program is compiled so as to reflect this diversity without neglecting the classical repertoire with works by Scriabin and Saint-Saëns. The most eminent Bulgarian composer Pancho Vladigerov is represented with two pieces – the emblematic Bulgarian Rhapsody Vardar and the lyrical Song. The virtuoso Sabre Dance by Aram Khachaturian and the enigmatic Elegy by Arno Babajanian will introduce the listener to the best Soviet Armenian music. DESCRIPTION:THOC’s Main Stage presents the play “The holiday trilogy” by the Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni. \nLeonardo and his sister Vittoria are preparing feverishly to depart for the country. Social convention demands that they live a life of luxury\, yet their debts are so great that this has become an impossibility. They cannot afford to go\, but how can Leonardo stay behind when his beloved Giacinta is also leaving for the summer accompanied by a handsome young rival? Their expensive sojourn in the country makes their financial problems even worse and will ultimately force them to compromise. \nWith humour and sly irony\, Goldoni castigates the passion with which his fellow-countrymen assert their status through luxury vacations\, describing it as “madness and folly”.
