SUMMARY:Metamorphosis\, Belgian Art 1860-1930
DESCRIPTION:The new temporary exhibition of A. G. Leventis Gallery is dedicated to the leaders of Belgian Impressionism as well as to the movements that developed after them. Selected works from Museums and private collections from Belgium\, Greece and Cyprus\, showcase the evolution of Belgian Impressionism\, from mid-19th to the beginning of 20th century. The exhibition is a retrospective to Belgian Impressionists and the group which\, in their attempt to reclaim some of the limelight from their more famous French counterparts\, have discovered unique ways in handling light\, emphasising on ‘sensation’ rather than ‘impression’. \nThe exhibition will focus on the movement’s most celebrated exponents\, bringing together works from leading Belgian museums\, but also treasures from celebrated private collections\, many hitherto unseen and unpublished. Following on from the precursors of Realism in Belgium\, such as Hippolyte Boulenger and Charles Hermans\, the exhibition will dwell on the flourishing of plein-air painting in Belgium in the late 19th century\, through works by Félicien Rops\, Théo van Rysselberghe\, Guillaume Vogels and James Ensor\, among others. SUMMARY:Musical Bridges - The Piano Quartet
DESCRIPTION:The Piano Quartet came out of the need by four pianists to sidestep the loneliness of the solo player\, the solitary long hours of practicing and even the solitude of the stage performance. “This loneliness is something we grow up with but it does not mean we are loners as characters”\, writes the creator of the project Musical Bridges\, Dr. Galina Dimova-Georgieva. There are many examples of great pianists who sought the collaboration with fellow musicians in their career\, Nicolas Economou’s pioneering collaboration “On Four Pianos” in 1983\, being a case in point. Natalia Lezedova\, Nina Ioannidou\, Ivelina Ruseva and Galina Dimova played at a concert during the Winter Music Festival 2017 in Paphos and decided to develop a program with predominantly six and eight hands works instead of the usual solos or duets. Three concerts came out of this idea and Musical Bridges is the third series. \nThe Paphos-based four pianists\, originally come from different backgrounds (Cyprus\, Greece\, Bulgaria and Russia) and the program is compiled so as to reflect this diversity without neglecting the classical repertoire with works by Scriabin and Saint-Saëns. The most eminent Bulgarian composer Pancho Vladigerov is represented with two pieces – the emblematic Bulgarian Rhapsody Vardar and the lyrical Song. The virtuoso Sabre Dance by Aram Khachaturian and the enigmatic Elegy by Arno Babajanian will introduce the listener to the best Soviet Armenian music. DESCRIPTION:Live broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera \nMadama Butterfly\, broadcast live from the Metropolitan Opera\, is a breathtaking production directed by Anthony Minghella and conducted by Pier Giorgio Morandi. \nWorld premiere: Teatro alla Scala\, Milan\, 1904. Met premiere: February 11\, 1907. The title character of Madama Butterfly—a young Japanese geisha who clings to the belief that her arrangement with a visiting American naval officer is a loving and permanent marriage—is one of the defining roles in opera. The story triggers ideas about cultural and sexual imperialism for people far removed from the opera house\, and film\, Broadway\, and popular culture in general have riffed endlessly on it. The lyric beauty of Puccini’s score\, especially the music for the thoroughly believable lead role\, has made Butterfly timeless. \nCreators: Giacomo Puccini (1858–1924) was immensely popular in his own lifetime\, and his mature works remain staples in the repertory of most of the world’s opera companies. His librettists for Madama Butterfly\, Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica\, had also collaborated with the composer on his previous two operas\, Tosca and La Bohème. Giacosa\, a dramatist\, was responsible for the stories and Illica\, a poet\, worked primarily on the words themselves. \nSettings: The opera takes place in the Japanese port city of Nagasaki at the turn of the last century\, at a time of expanding American international presence. Japan was hesitantly defining its global role\, and Nagasaki was one of the country’s few ports open to foreign ships. Temporary marriages for foreign sailors were not unusual. \nMusic: Puccini achieved a new level of sophistication with his use of the orchestra in this score\, with subtle colorings and sonorities throughout. But the opera rests squarely on the performer of the title role: On stage for most of the time\, Cio-Cio-San is the only character that experiences true (and tragic) development. The singer must convey an astounding array of emotions and characteristics\, from ethereal to fleshly to intelligent to dreamy-bordering-on-insane\, to resigned in the final scene.

DESCRIPTION:Teatro Angelico organizes an adult theater play workshop entitled “Theater Games.” on Sunday\, November 10\, 2019\, from 10:00 to 13:00. The workshop coordinator and animator is Angela Rizaki\, a theatrical educator and actress. \nThe workshop is aimed at teachers of all levels\, educators\, actors\, animators\, psychologists\, students of pedagogical\, social and artistic studies and in general anyone who wishes to experience emotions and unlock themselves. \nThe workshop includes introductory & role play\, concentration\, relaxation and sensation exercises\, group communication and empowerment exercises\, physical/motor exercises\, pantomime\, improvisation\, creative writing. \nA three-hour journey is full of moments of laughter\, liberation\, expression\, imagination and plenty of play. \nWe are waiting for you. \nInformation \nTo apply call: 99753388\n(Limited number of participants.
