										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Public expenditure in all levels of education, amounted to €1,227.6 million, in 2017, and accounted for 16.6% of the government budget and 6.1% of the Gross Domestic Product, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service, on Monday, show.<br /> <br />In particular, based on the results of the Annual Survey on Education for the school year 2017/2018, the total number of pupils and students at all educational levels was 191,787 recording an increase of 1.8% compared, to the school year 2016/2017 where the total number of pupils and students was 188,311.</p>
<p>The total number of educational establishments also increased to 1,338 in the school year 2017/2018, compared to 1,333 in the previous school year.</p>
<p>During 2017/2018 the total number of teachers, amounted to 14,982 compared to 14,950 of the previous school-year, also recording an increase of 0.2%.</p>
<p>In pre-school and pre-primary education, for the school year 2017/2018, 745 kindergartens and day nursery schools operated, with 32,522 children enrolled.</p>
<p>In primary education 362 schools operated, attended by 56,699 pupils.</p>
<p>In secondary education 54,966 pupils enrolled in 165 schools.</p>
<p>In tertiary education, 55 educational institutions operated with a total number of 47,169 students.</p>
<p>According to the annual survey on education, 11 special schools operated with 431 pupils.<br /> <br />Public expenditure in all levels of education, amounted to €1,227.6 million, in 2017, and accounted for 16.6% of the government budget and 6.1% of the Gross Domestic Product.</p>
<p>The cost per student for public education, in 2017 measured, in terms of current expenditure, was €5,025 for pre-school and pre-primary, €6,137 for primary, €10,093 for secondary general, €12,828 for secondary technical and €10,328 for tertiary education.</p>
