In a press release, the Forests Department warns that the danger of forest fires breaking out on Monday is on a “red alert” level and appeals to the public to “avoid actions and activities which may cause a fire.”

The Meteorology Department has also issued a yellow alert for extremely high temperatures today until 1700 hours local time (1400 GMT).

Temperatures are expected to reach 42 degrees Celsius inland and 39 degrees Celsius in the southern coastal areas.

The heatwave is back and according to the Cyprus Metro Service temperatures are expected to reach the scorching 40-degree mark heading into this week.

The Cyprus Metro Office have issued a yellow weather warning on Monday morning and urge the people to be extremely careful while going outside and exposing themselves to the high temperatures.

The Weather warning is in full effect from 11:00 am – 17:00 pm.

Monday will be mainly fine with temperatures rising to 40 C inland, 32 C on the west coast, around 35 C on the remaining coasts and 30 C in the mountains.

Tonight will be mainly fine with the possibility of local low cloud and patchy fog at dawn.

According to morning predictions scattered and thunderstorms are on the horizon and are expected to affect the island as from Wednesday afternoon.

Cyprus Metro Office says Wednesday’s weather will be mainly fine but during the course of the afternoon, clouds are expected to bring showers and thunderstorms in the mountain areas, inland and in the West and North coasts.

Temperatures are expected to drop below seasonal levels.

A strong spell of high pressure will affect the island and temperatures are expected to hit the hot 40 C inland today, edging up even more on Tuesday, prompting the met office to issue a yellow alert.

The yellow alert is in force from 1 pm to 5 pm on Monday. The met office announcement says that inland maximum temperature of around 40 C is expected and warns the vulnerable parts of the population to be extremely careful while exposing themselves to the high temperatures.

In its early morning weather forecast, the met office said Monday will be mainly fine, with increased local cloud in the afternoon in the mountains.

Temperatures will hit 40 C inland, around 32 C on the west coast, around 33 C on the remaining coasts and around 29 C in the mountains.

According to the Cyprus Met Office temperatures in Cyprus are set to reach 35 C on Monday and expected to rise further on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Monday will be mainly fine, although there will be increased high cloud in the afternoon. Temperatures will be 35 C inland, around 30 C on the south and east coasts, around 29 C on the west and north coasts and 27 C in the mountains.

On Tuesday the weather will remain fine, with temperatures rising to above average for the time of year.

Wednesday and Thursday will be mainly fine and sunny, with increased higher cloud at intervals while there may be light dust in the atmosphere from Wednesday evening.

Heavy snowfall occurring right now at Troodos mountains, videos floating around the internet indicate more low pressure is amongst us and will remain in Cyprus for the next few days.

Videos uploaded onto social media show footage from the Jubilee Hotel up in the Troodos area and the snowstorm affecting the area and according to posts, online temperatures have fallen to as low as 0,5 degrees.

Low pressure is currently making its presence felt all over the island and according to the Cyprus Metro Office rain and thunderstorms will dominate the scene for the next few days and citizens should be careful while driving or going to the mountains.
